The George Mason University Office for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (OEI) under the Office of the Provost seeks a Part-Time Events and Marketing Assistant for the Mason Innovation Exchange (MIX). Mason Innovation Exchange spaces are open to Mason students, faculty, staff—and in certain circumstances—Mason alumni and the broader entrepreneurial community in northern Virginia. The spaces allow cross collaboration between multidisciplinary students, maker/prototyping activities, design thinking, interest meetings, guest speakers, and entrepreneurial programs such as hackathons, business plan competitions and business accelerator programs.
Within guidance established by the AVP (and/or AVP's delegate), coordinate all aspects of on-campus events sponsored by the OEI including communicating directly with guest speakers and invited guests;
Respond to requests for use of MIX facilities by Mason departments and outside parties;
Send out event intake form and review information to ensure the proposed event meets MIX criteria;
Schedule appropriate space and confirm with user;
Prepare cost estimates, invoices and interdepartmental journal vouchers. Receive payments and make deposits;
Coordinate with University Events and other Mason departments as necessary;
Create and post directional signs within the MIX for events;
Provide on-site logistical support as necessary;
Manage, update and review event calendar. Distribute weekly calendar of events to MIX staff;
Create and distribute promotional materials for OEI sponsored events. Manage the MIX mailing list; and
Promote events on social media platforms.
Ability to initiate, plan, schedule and manage multiple events simultaneously;
Ability to plan for and coordinate logistical needs including University Events, Mason Facilities, Parking Services, food and beverage providers, etc.;
Ability to develop accurate cost estimates;
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively both orally and in writing;
Must be extremely detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and multitasking skills;
Must be willing to work independently in a fast-paced environment;
Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed;
Demonstrated event planning experience, including nonprofessional experience and volunteer work;
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite; and
Experience using social media platforms.
Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., hospitality, tourism, event management); and
Previous experience working on a college campus.
Salary: $16.00 per hour
