University Relations builds enduring relationships, resources, and understanding that enable UC Santa Cruz to provide educational opportunities, create knowledge, and transform lives. University Relations works closely with internal and external constituencies of the campus including trustees of the UC Santa Cruz Foundation, the Alumni Council, and members of other key constituencies.
University Relations provides leadership, strategic planning, and central services in the areas of alumni, donor and parent relations and outreach, fundraising, government relations, communications, marketing, media relations, public events and publications (electronic and print), and campus Web development. In addition, University Relations provides support for the UC Santa Cruz Foundation and the UCSC Alumni Associations, both separate, not-for-profit corporations in the state of California.
Under the direction of the Associate Director of Annual Giving, this position is responsible for the planning and execution of projects within the Alumni Engagement team with a particular focus on Annual Giving activities. Each year, this person will work with the Associate Director of Annual Giving to create an Annual Giving solicitation calendar and track the program against agreed upon goals. This person will write solicitations, select images, build emails, and analyze results.
The person in this position will manage other direct marketing activities as necessary. This person will help establish a recurring giving program, work with campus partners on annual giving plans, and support other digital fundraising activities including Giving Day. This position is also responsible for coordinating all direct mail and email efforts to assist with the affinity based annual giving efforts and Friends Groups. The person in this position will assist with the online ambassador program, finding content and creating engaging posts.
Work-site location is the UC Santa Cruz Scotts Valley Center (100 Enterprise Way, Scotts Valley, CA).
For full consideration for an interview, applicants will be asked to submit a short writing sample that demonstrates compelling writing competency. This writing sample, along with the cover letter, resume, and application, will be used to assess the quality and strength of an applicant's writing abilities for the purpose of the interview selection.
Qualifications include:
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / education.
Superior written and verbal communication skills sufficient to write solicitations, draft proposals, create marketing materials and to prepare and deliver presentations to both small and large groups.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a myriad of people of differing temperaments, socioeconomic backgrounds, and political/ethical philosophies, and to be tactful, diplomatic, and attentive in personal contacts with donors, external constituencies, and university personnel.
An innovative approach to work tasks, with the ability to be flexible and creatively solve problems as they arise.
Ability to generate and test new ideas to meet the demands of the evolving higher education fundraising landscape.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
