Position Summary: Responsible for communications, messaging/branding, development and implementation of special business development initiatives, and assessment, identification and response to emerging business opportunities. Works closely with the Client Development team and Digital Marketing Manager to achieve firm communications and business development objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Specific duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Work with the Chief Business Development & Marketing Officer, firm management, Client Development team and individual practices to identify and reinforce firm branding messages and market differentiators
Work closely with the Chief Business Development & Marketing Officer to predict and respond to emerging opportunities o Engage in business and competitive intelligence research o Develop strategic assessments of firm marketing and business development opportunities o Lead the implementation of key-client centered communications initiatives o Lead the creation of industry-focused initiatives to complement the firm’s practice area efforts
Manage and oversee external and internal communications, including web and print communications, client pitches, PR, print advertising, industry surveys, rankings and awards, and internal presentations o Assess and refine communications processes, recommending best practices from within and beyond the legal industry o Develop and implement a firm-wide strategic communications and public relations plan o Develop and manage editorial calendar o Develop standards for marketing content, including attorney biographies and website practice group pages, to meet current and emerging firm business objectives while aligning with the firm’s brand style and voice o Manage the creation of content including news items, press releases, pitch materials, award nominations, and written marketing collateral materials o Edit and ensure quality for a wide variety of marketing materials and attorney- written content o Develop and execute a plan for the organization, storage, and retrieval of previous marketing work product to streamline the overall communications and message process, including the assessment and implementation of technology-based solutions, as appropriate o Oversee the process of maintaining a record of media coverage relating to the firm and its attorneys
Manage publicity efforts for incoming lateral attorneys, including overseeing the development of firm biographies, creation of press releases, and coordination of press coverage
Lead tracking and reporting of business development and marketing efforts
Assist with administration of department o Provide supervision, training and guidance to Marketing Assistants and Graphic Designer o Manage budgeting and ongoing expenditures for communications initiatives o Manage relationships with vendors
Other duties as assigned
BA/BS and experience in legal marketing or business development required; degree in English, Library Science, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or Marketing preferred; J.D. strongly preferred
Law firm experience preferred
Exceptional research, writing, and oral communications skills required; must be adept at producing content in the firm’s brand style and voice and on deadline (same-day turnaround)
Prior management experience required
Must be able to manage multiple concurrent projects
Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with attorneys and staff at all levels and in all departments. Must be comfortable interacting with a variety of personalities with a client-service-oriented attitude and disposition
The ideal candidate is detail oriented, can work independently (but must be a team player), and possesses excellent presentation and communications skills
Candidates must be familiar with Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress, Microsoft Office ; HTML proficiency and experience with marketing automation software strongly preferred
Must be flexible and willing to work overtime as needed; work occasionally requires travel to other JW offices, and occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position
Physical requirements are: o Sighted o Good hearing and clear speaking voice o Dexterity with hands and fingers o Must be able to lift light weights such as files and boxes (10-30 lbs)
