Background Tutoring Chicago empowers economically disadvantaged children through education. Since 1965 the organization has provided free one-to-one tutoring with the help of hundreds of volunteers each week. Tutoring Chicago has tripled enrollment and locations since 2010 and is on its way to serving 1000 kids a week with at least four locations across the city. Our fiscal year begins August 1 with a projected revenue need of approximately 1.2M, growing aggressively beyond. Role Summary The Director of Development and Marketing is a recently created key leadership position designed to scale our development and marketing strategies to meet the growing demand of our services. The Director of Development and Marketing will be responsible for creating, implementing, and executing strategic marketing and fundraising efforts that align with the organization’s strategic plan. Paramount to this role is cultivating relationships with new and existing donors to meet our funding needs, especially individual donor growth. The role includes management and execution of marketing strategy for fundraising, recruitment, and community awareness. This role reports to the Executive Director and works in conjunction with a team of six directors (Operations, Community Relations, Technology, Program, Evaluation, Foundations). Responsibilities - Create, schedule, and execute annual development plan and strategy for specified major donor portfolio
- Work with the Executive Director to create annual revenue plan with monthly projections
- Oversee the growth of individual giving including large gifts, volunteer/tutor giving, donor segmenting, board giving and donor fulfilment
- Lead and execute the annual marketing plan as the brand stewards, including campaigns (for fundraising, awareness, and recruitment) among a small team based on our strategic plan
- Design and implement donor experience strategies along with cultivation plans for moderate, mid-level and high-level donors
- Oversee donor database and records of charitable giving through online donor management system
- Identify and create new donor relationships and fundraising opportunities
- Identify and develop the solicitation tools needed for successful fundraising and recruitment
- Train staff and Board of Directors on the effective use of solicitation tools
- Coordinate with team to plan and execute events in line with our overall development strategy
- Develop attractive sponsorship packages and event promotions
- Represent Tutoring Chicago at donor meetings and external events
- Manage gift fulfillment and reporting to donors to ensure annual retention
- Produce up-to-date fundraising reports for staff, management, and Board as required
- Host weekly development meeting to update appropriate team members on fundraising activities
Initial Metrics - Raise 1.2M in conjunction with development team for the 2018-19 FY, growing aggressively beyond
- Grow major gift giving annually to reflect goals set forth in Strategic Plan
- Lead efforts to raise annual giving from new sources and create a strong donor pipeline
- Create new donor relationships (portfolio) of individuals and businesses
- Create segmented fundraising appeals resulting in 50% growth annually
- Grow individual giving by 50% annually, progressing towards industry standards for overall giving
- Reach targeted annual enrollment goals for donors, students, and volunteers
