Advertised Summary Job Description: ** A strong internal candidate has been identified, however, we are still receiving and reviewing applications from qualified candidates.** Reporting to the Executive Director of Miller Theatre, the incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing the Theatre's marketing, promotion, outreach, and public relations campaigns, including strategic planning, audience development, and branding. Develops and oversees the marketing expense budget and is responsible for meeting annual earned revenue targets. Directs the creation and production of all marketing materials, including advertising, brochures, direct mail, and the Theatre website. Supervises full-time Audience Services Manager and Marketing and Communications Manager. Supervises graphic designers, publicists, vendors, and consultants. Oversees press coverage at performances. Establishes systems and procedures that ensure optimal marketing operations. The incumbent will work to increase public awareness of and participation in the arts at Columbia University as a member of the School of the Arts and Miller Theatre's communications and public affairs team. Other related projects as assigned. MANAGEMENT -Develop and implement marketing, outreach, public relations, and audience development campaigns, including a master schedule of all department efforts -Oversee audience and market research to inform and improve the development of new programming initiatives and strategic marketing plans -Conceptualize and develop a strong visual identity for marketing and public relations materials, in collaboration with graphic design consultant -Oversee the design, content, creation, and production of all marketing and promotion materials, including advertising, brochures, direct mail, concert programs, postcards, and posters -Work with public relations consultant to create and disseminate monthly, series, and event press releases; oversee press coverage at performances -Oversee the design, content, creation, and maintenance of the Miller Theatre website -Responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of outreach programs, including partnerships with faculty, campus, and community groups -Oversee solicitation of bids from and negotiations with Columbia University Print and Mail Services departments, Publications Office, and outside vendors -Maintains Miller Theatre marketing, press, and program archives ADMINISTRATION - -Formulate and administer annual ticket revenue and marketing expense budgets, and is responsible for meeting annual earned revenue targets -Monitor and analyze income and expenses, prepare reports to aid in annual tracking and long-term planning -Develop annual and long-range marketing, outreach, and public relations plans -Oversee procedures to ensure compliance with University policy -Hire, train, supervise, and schedule the staff needed to accomplish marketing, outreach, and public relations goals General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. A minimum of four years marketing experience is required. Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated capacity to strategically formulate and successfully execute marketing and public relations campaigns. Exceptional planning, organizational, management, and team-building skills necessary. Superior written and verbal communication skills are required, as is the ability to interact with a highly diverse group of constituents within and outside the University and performing arts community, utilizing savvy, tact, and discretion. A high level of energy, initiative, and creativity is essential. Working knowledge of software and platforms used to develop, execute, and assess marketing campaigns (Excel, CRM systems, email marketing software, Adobe Creative Suite, digital advertising platforms such as Facebook and Google AdWords, etc). Preferred Qualifications: Marketing experience in the performing arts is strongly preferred.
