This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end six months and one from initial appointment, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
Under the supervision of the Director of Media Relations and in teamwork with other members of the Marketing & Communications Department, the Media Relations Officer provides assistance in carrying out the initiatives and activities of the department. Scope of work includes but is not limited to preparing, researching, writing and editing material for the media, campus community and the external community (e.g. donors, stakeholders, etc.); facilitating multi-media projects through the utilization of photography, videography and audio.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,809 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,515 - $5,993 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, multimedia reporting and audience engagement and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research; basic working knowledge with video/audio production equipment. This background normally is obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles are essential to initial entry to this classification.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of two years of work experience inpublic relations or journalism.
Established media contacts – including national media.
Familiarity with SDSU.
Experience producing video for use on the Internet.
Experience writing for the Web and magazine features.
Experience with web-based content management system, and Photoshop.
