The Assistant Director of Resources Marketing is responsible for driving digital marketing strategy and initiatives for Wellesley’s development office, the Office for Resources. This position works with the Senior Associate Director of Resources Marketing and team, playing a key role in expanding and improving the direct marketing fundraising efforts using digital channels. In close partnership with Wellesley’s Communications and Public Affairs and annual giving teams, this person will create and implement an array of digital initiatives to educate, solicit, and steward donors—and ultimately increase alumnae participation and philanthropic support of the College. The Assistant Director will be responsible for maintaining online giving forms; creating and sending broadcast emails (MailChimp); creating and maintaining web content; social media marketing; websites and microsites; video content creation; maintenance of our online social fundraising platform (GiveCampus), and other projects as requested.
This role requires a high level of creativity, excellent project management skills, and a strong understanding of the digital and social media marketing landscape.
Primary Position Responsibilities: Supports the Senior Associate Director of Resources Marketing in planning and executing all digital fundraising marketing efforts in a cost-effective and timely manner. This role must balance multiple, ongoing production schedules—from assessment of needs to delivered product—to help meet fundraising objectives. Manages the Giving to Wellesley section of the Wellesley website in order to keep the site in good working order and ensure that content is fresh, engaging, adheres to branding guidelines, and is accessible. Writes compelling content, produces, and delivers broadcast email solicitations using MailChimp; tracks and reports back on statistics to better inform marketing strategy. Writes compelling content and produces paid and organic social media fundraising campaigns; works in collaboration with the College’s Marketing Communications Director to execute. Tracks and reports back on statistics to better inform marketing strategy. Acts as the primary point person for outside vendors/partners used to execute digital efforts (e.g., freelancers, graphic designers, photographers, videographers, etc.) Keeps detailed accounts and documentation from project planning sessions and post-project retrospectives. This position will also play a role in supporting the implementation of new digital marketing tools as they are adopted by the Office for Resources.
Performance Profile: Production schedules developed are detailed, reasonable, and take into consideration appropriate time for each aspect of the project. This position communicates impact of delays and prompts for deliverables. Projects are kept on schedule, delivered on time, and are accurate. Digital content campaigns and efforts are compelling and effective. This person is seen as a go-to as it relates to digital projects in marketing if the Senior Associate Director is not available; has a deep understanding of the culture at Wellesley, the goals of the programs, details relating to production, and the status of the department’s efforts. This person is seen as a reliable partner—someone who brings good ideas to the table, and identifies ways to be more efficient and effective.
Bachelor’s degree (communications, marketing, or related field preferred) A valid driver’s license
2+ years of experience in marketing communications. Previous higher education or other nonprofit communication experience is desirable, but not required.
Skills and Abilities Required:
Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently: eager and effective collaborator. Strong written language skills are a must. Superior ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to problem-solve and project plan. Above average attention to detail required. Web-savvy. Comfortable and conversant with digital marketing concepts, experience with various web and social media platforms, and an understanding of their use in philanthropic marketing, stewardship, and communications. Current with key concepts, best practices, and procedures in digital marketing. Familiarity with web management, HTML/CSS, MailChimp, Google Analytics, and the Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop and InDesign). Must be very comfortable and creative as a computer user, interested in using technology to streamline activities.
A sense of humor and high-degree of flexibility preferred.
