The Department ofDevelopment and Alumni Relations (DAR) assists Vanderbilt University insecuring the resources, both human and financial, that are required to achieveits mission and goals. The Department isresponsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardshipof individuals and organizations whose charitable objectives are consistentwith those of Vanderbilt University teaching and research programs. In support of its purpose and in response toexisting and emerging needs of Vanderbilt University, DAR is seeking anAssociate Director of Direct Marketing/Response.
The Associate Directorof Direct Marketing/Response develops and executes direct outreach appealsplans for the general university constituency and for individual schools and colleges.Forms of media included in the direct marketing plan include direct mail, telephoneoutreach, email, web presence and video. The Associate Director confers withDevelopment and Alumni Relations partners in various units to develop an optimaloutreach plan that engages each area; works with partners in communications andinformation management to deliver on the executional details of the plans;ensures that plans are executed on-time and on-budget; and evaluates programresults to inform future plans.
This position reports tothe Director of Direct Response.
Duties and responsibilities
Develop and execute comprehensive annual giving marketingsolicitation plans for the university as a whole and for various school-basedconstituencies. These marketing plans will primarily target alumni and friends.
Collaborate with development partners in communications and withinthe schools and units to ensure an effective outreach plan that retains thevoice and character of each individual area represented.
Create effective segmentation strategies that employ annual givingbest practices and improve donor participation and engagement.
Create direct marketing fundraising plan forecasts, review actualoutcomes and apply lessons learned to improve future outreach strategies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
This position doesnot have supervisory responsibility and reports administratively andfunctionally to the Director of Direct Response
Profile of an IdealCandidate
Bachelor's Degree is necessary.
Candidates should have a minimum of one year of relevant experienceor the equivalent.
Prefer three years of progressively responsible experiencedeveloping and executing multi-channel direct marketing plans in support offundraising goals for multiple university units.
Familiarity with annual giving communications best practices.
Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to work with internal partners to developaction plans that are consistent with the message, tone, and overalladvancement programming associated with different schools and units.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
