Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications for The National Institute for Early Education Research. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Institute Director. This position leads and helps implement all aspects of the Institute's communications and public affairs activities. The Assistant Director designs and implements a strategic plan for disseminating the Institute's research including the development of products that translate research for policy makers, philanthropy, advocates, and the general public.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Works with the Institute staff to plan and coordinate the production and dissemination of digital, print and technical assistance activities for multiple projects.
Responsible for writing and editing research reports, policy briefs, newsletters, videos, and presenting at constituent events including conferences and policy forums.
Monitors progress on plans and manage implementation to achieve time lines.
Identifies, develops and manages external relationships, including media relationships.
Oversees design, implementation, and upkeep of the website.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, or related area, or equivalent experience.
A minimum of 5 years working in journalism, communications,public affairs or related.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to develop and implement goals-oriented communication strategies
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
Must be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and other staff
Effectively supervises staff, and contributes to the Institute's goals
Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills
An advanced degree is preferred.
Knowledge of and experience with early childhood education policy issues
Knowledge of publication design, layout, graphic design, communications tools and digital publishing
Experience with government relations and/or public policy communications
