The Library Specialist II, under general supervision, provides general customer service and standard or routine library functions related to various specialized disciplines. Performs standard library functions in one or more library units. Under supervision, learns intermediate and more advanced library functions.; Work hours: Opens library at 7 AM, Mon-Fri during long semesters; Must be flexible to accommodate library schedule.
40% Under the direction of the Manager of Global Learning and Outreach, assists in the organization and implementation of on-and off-campus outreach activities:
Assists with development of partnerships with other university entities and initiatives that help facilitate userâ™s knowledge of available library resources and services at all instruction sites.
Assists with outreach activities, including the library's participation in student affairs activities, diversity programs, and other university events.
Seeks ways to improve current and new campaigns and events.
Responsible for maintaining statistics of attendance and usage for programs and events.
40% Promotion of Library:
Creates programs, brochures, displays, and other activities for library and other special events.
Uses best practices to ensure all copywriting, proofing, and editing is managed correctly.
Publicizes library services and resources regularly through a variety of means (e.g. social media, email, news releases, website, brochures, advertisements, video presentations).
Assists in ongoing social media presence by disseminating information that will increase awareness of library services, promotes resources, support library and campus events, and foster a sense of community about the library.
Coordinates exhibits and displays for campus and library promotional activities and special events.
20% Other duties as assigned:
Performs other duties as assigned as well as maintaining professional development through membership on library and university committees, attendance at workshops, and through community activities.
Trouble-shoots problems in the absence of supervisor.
Assists on committee assignments and participation in staff development programs.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience; Two years of library experience or three years of general clerical or office experience which includes experience with marketing and promotion and experience managing or assisting withbusiness social media platforms.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to create professional quality promotional materials (layout composition, typography, graphics); Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications; Excellent interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and research skills; Knowledge of email and internet search engines; Basic keyboarding skills; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others; Ability to work independently, as a team member, and as a team leader
