The College of Liberal Arts Administration is seeking a Senior Director, Marketing and Communications. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean.
The Oregon State University College of Liberal Arts (CLA) is in the process of building a centralized communications and marketing team that will work together to create communications on behalf of all academic entities within the college. Building on a dynamic vision and the energetic and independent spirit of CLA, the Senior Director of Communications and Marketing will have a unique opportunity to shape the direction for all communications efforts within the college and its six schools while leading a team of seasoned, talented and creative communicators.
The Senior Director of Communications and Marketing is a leadership position with primary responsibility and accountability for developing and implementing communications strategies aimed at enhancing visibility and recognition of the College of Liberal Arts and its programs. The Senior Director will oversee the college's three to eight-member team of marketing and communications professionals while managing the day-to-day and strategic communications and marketing activities of the college. Further, the Senior Director will act as the liaison to the OSU Foundation, OSU Alumni Association, Office of University Relations and Marketing, and OSU News and Research Communications.
Reporting to the Dean or his/her designate, the Senior Director will lead the development of a strategic communications plan for the college; coordinate marketing communications efforts within the academic units of the college; integrate insights into messaging and communications strategies; and serve as a central point of contact for CLA marketing and communication. The Senior Director will strategically use marketing communications to help the college recruit students at all levels; elevate the college's presence across OSU and far beyond; and develop deeper and broader alumni relationships.
As a college, CLA plans and hosts a multitude of events, lecture series and performances throughout the year. These events are a cornerstone of CLA's communications efforts, and the Senior Director will supervise and support event staff and experts who are directly responsible for the success of these varied events.
The Senior Director proactively brings fresh thinking and ideas to set a clear direction for CLA's communications efforts and will also continually refine and intentionally drive that direction based on the evolving goals and needs of the college and its schools. In this role, the Senior Director:
Models best practices for higher education marketing and communications development.
Expertly incorporates the OSU master brand into communications and oversees updates to the college's brand guidelines and standards while clearly articulating the CLA brand story and culture.
Oversees electronic and print-based materials of the college to ensure alignment with goals, ensuring updates to the college website and social media platforms.
Serves as a point of connection for CLA schools and units to coordinate efforts and ensure alignment through a comprehensive communication plan across all units to serve the interests of the college and schools.
Formulates the annual CLA strategic communication and marketing plan, accounting for budgetary considerations and efficiencies.
Provides leadership and mentorship for the communications and marketing team, modeling collaboration and supporting development and growth.
Serves as a liaison with designated leaders within the college and across the university for enrollment, advancement, and communications and marketing, to inform, support and augment all communications efforts.
Typically requires Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Journalism or related field. 3 years' experience as professional journalist or managing communications and marketing functions.
BA/BS in Media, Journalism, Communication, Marketing, or related field, and at least five years professional marketing and communications experience with at least two years of leadership, management and supervision experience in marketing, communications or related field. May also include a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate's ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
Outstanding written and interpersonal communications skills. Demonstrated writing/editing skills and experience shaping stories and strategies to engage targeted audiences. Excellent command of grammar and knowledge of Associated Press (AP) Style.
Demonstrated project management experience; experience developing and managing budgets.
Ability to manage multiple priorities; executing deliverables on time, within scope and within budget.
Experience designing and/or executing integrated marketing plans, including digital marketing strategy.
Experience with content management systems.
Understanding of social media communications strategies.
Experience with marketing planning, implementation and evaluation.
Experience with web technologies and managing a website.
Experience with event planning.
