Essential Functions: JOB PURPOSEDirect the creation and implementation of a centralized strategic marketing plan for graduate education at Wayne State University. Plans include marketing and communications, and graduate outreach goals and objectives outlined in the strategic plan. Supervise web/online communication and outreach staff, and collaborate with other University staff and units within the University, as well as the community. Reports to Graduate School Dean.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSProvide marketing and communication leadership, supervision and strategic direction for the Graduate School. Serve as advisor to the Graduate School dean and the senior leadership team on all marketing, communications, and graduate recruitment related initiatives. Create a collaborative working environment with graduate school staff and University community
Participate in strategic planning and implementation. Lead efforts to increase the visibility of Graduate Education at WSU, graduate students, alumni, and faculty. Prepare recommendations for effective communication of graduate education policies and procedures, and internal marketing of Graduate School services and resources.
Supervise website/online communication and outreach professional staff, providing oversight on marketing and recruitment strategy through a variety of media, and adherence to brand guidelines and cohesive messaging on all graduate education initiatives. Provide overall leadership and direction to staff. Set expectations & focus, assign duties, delegate responsibilities, evaluate activities, prepare performance appraisals & professional development plans. Provide coaching, mentoring and teaching. Manage the administrative process for assigned staff including hiring, promotions, terminations, disciplinary procedures, and salary adjustments. Provide ongoing performance feedback, goal setting, and development plans for staff. Plan for future staffing needs. Provide timely communications to staff.
Develop recommendations to support Wayne State University graduate program marketing in collaboration with Schools and Colleges.
Provide oversight on new and existing outreach and graduate recruitment efforts in consultation with the Dean and leadership team including Director of Admissions.
Manage communications in various media for the Graduate School which reflect the brand and competitively position the school. Responsible for content creation, organization, and quality assurance of Graduate School brochures, bulletins, event invitations, newsletters, magazines, postcards, HTML targeted emails, speeches, letters, memos and other publications for dissemination to both internal and external audiences.
Work collaboratively with the central Office of Marketing and Communications and the Graduate School to achieve University goals.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: EDUCATIONBachelor's degree in Marketing or Communications.EXPERIENCE5-8 years experience in marketing and communications role within higher education with marketing management and strategic planning experience and a proven track record in developing and administering a marketing/communications program.
Requires two years experience supervising professional and administrative staff.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESAbility to set and implement a self- directed agenda. Consensus building skills. Excellent ability to prioritize work assignments to meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of management in Client organizations throughout the University.
Ability to plan and set strategic direction for marketing and communication efforts and the ability to work and lead a variety of people and situations. Ability to articulate the mission of Wayne State University and the Graduate School to many constituencies.
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization. Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of management and educational administrators within and outside the University.
Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and develop strategies to achieve organizational goals, develop realistic action plans. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, often under tight deadlines. Must be a self-starter and highly organized.
