Full-time, 12 months, Exempt Sandy Spring Friends School seeks a Director of Marketing and Communications (MarCom) who will develop, lead, and manage all strategic marketing and communications efforts for the School. The MarCom Department serves as the school's primary resource for brand development and strategy, marketing efforts across all departments, public relations, web content and development, and creative design. Additionally, the MarCom Department centrally supports the communication needs of our divisions and departments to ensure that all messaging reflects our values, brand, reputation, and community in a clear and vibrant way. The MarCom Department plays a leading role in marketing to prospective families, employees, donors, and promoting the brand and good works of the school to key external audiences. This senior administrator position reports to the Head of School and serves on the Administrative Council, working in close partnership with Admissions, Advancement, the Head of School’s office, Auxiliary Programs, Technology and Inquiry Guides, and the academic divisions of the School. By implementing innovative communications and marketing strategies, the SSFS Director of MarCom will accomplish the department’s goal of informing, inspiring, and deepening our connection to our community of parents, students, alumni, faculty and staff, board members, and friends of SSFS and promoting and amplifying the value of an SSFS education to prospective families, other thought leaders, and our peer schools on a local, regional, national, and international level. Areas of Responsibility Include: All-School messaging, Branding, Communications Policy & Procedures, Crisis Communication, Design & Production, Head of School Communications, Marketing, Public relations, Social Media, and Web Content & Design Knowledge and Skill Set Requirements: B.A./B.S. in communications, marketing, or related field with advanced degree preferred; outstanding written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated proficiency with communications and graphic design skills and software, including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and Google Apps; demonstrated photography and videography skills; ability to multi-task and perform duties under tight time constraints; skilled at researching and analyzing marketing data and trends; ability to organize and prioritize work, and to move fluidly between long-term strategic project design/implementation and short-term detailed work; a visionary, creative, and strategically-focused leader and collaborative team player; and a seasoned individual adept at understanding the independent school landscape within the Washington Metro area. Physical Requirements: Daily desk work including significant amounts of telephone and computer time; frequent walking both inside and outside around a large campus with uneven pavement and in buildings with stairs; bending/squatting as part of photography and videography job duties.
