Waldorf School of Lexington, now in its 51st year, is currently seeking a Marketing & Communications Manager (MCM) to lead the strategic marketing and communication initiatives of the school. The MCM will highlight our distinctive curriculum, pedagogy, teaching methods, and other key differentiators with internal and external audiences. They will be responsible for all marketing activities, internal communications to parents and external communications to prospective parents, including print, digital, website, and social media platforms, while maintaining consistent brand management, positioning, and messaging. This onsite, full-time position has an immediate expected start date and offers full benefits with a salary that is commensurate with experience.
The primary responsibilities include:
Create and execute annual marketing and communication plans
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and parent groups, and develop associated tactics to support marketing and communication plans
Work with School Leadership and Advancement and Admissions leadership to analyze internal enrollment data and trends and, as needed, make corrections to the established marketing and communication plans
Regularly interact with the Board’s marketing committee to review and refine the school’s strategic marketing plans
Position the school with effective messaging that clearly communicates program features and benefits, highlights key differentiators, and addresses misconceptions
Oversee the production of all marketing and admissions collateral/advertising materials: viewbook, postcards/flyers, brochures, banners, lawn signs, car magnets, etc.
School website: Develop and update all content including writing, photo selection, and technical implementation. Track website performance with Google Analytics
Manage the school’s Facebook and Instagram; Vimeo channel; LinkedIn company page
Generate content across platforms (blog posts, print content, social media, etc.) to promote, educate and highlight WSL innovation and thought leadership
Update school profiles on AWSNA, AISNE, Yelp, Private School Review, and other websites/organizations
Manage SEO work and optimize the school’s online presence via website content, title tags, meta descriptions, and other factors that affect the school’s Google ranking
Collaborate on admissions and advancement messaging/communication materials (print and digital) and activities such as advertising, community emails, and other outreach efforts.
Support Admissions Events as needed
PR: Write press releases that promote WSL programs and Waldorf education
Study marketing approaches of other Waldorf and independent schools
Develop and execute an advertising plan that maximizes the school’s ad budget while building brand awareness and communicating WSL programs and unique benefits to prospective parents
Gatekeeper and strategist for school’s communication policies and identity: e.g. what channels to use for different purposes, managing frequency, ensuring quality/clarity and intentionality of school’s communications, and usage of brand.
Manage the writing and deployment process for email communication to parents in support of school events, policies, and initiatives
Maintain email distribution lists in MailChimp
Manage the production and oversight of the schools email communications, including all newsletters.
Write/edit, design, and produce materials to support school events: e.g., programs for Olympics, Mendenhall, Holiday Fair, graduation; all graduation collateral
Manage the production process for school publications, such as the Parent Handbook
Oversee the production of all advancement materials
Manage volunteer school photographers (ensuring event coverage, reviewing and distributing photos)
Management and oftentimes, design execution of school and program materials: chalk art, display cases, signage, and miscellaneous print/digital needs of the community.
Assist with Board meeting material collection and distribution
Draft job postings and submit to job search sites and associations (AWSNA, AISNE, etc.)

Experience working in a Waldorf or independent school
Strong interpersonal communications skills, demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly, as well as efficiency, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail
Confidence, professionalism, and a friendly, outgoing personality
Excellent project management skills, and be a motivated self-starter with a positive, “can-do” attitude
3+ years of experience in marketing and communication
Positive, engaging, and outgoing personality
Strategic insight into marketing in today’s competitive independent school market
Experience with social media and online marketing
Experience with video production and editing is a plus
